Editorial standards

How Localis researches, checks, credits and updates its stories, which is the basis for trusting what you read here.

Updated

Localis aims to be a trustworthy reference on local culture. This page describes how we work to keep that promise.

Research

Every story starts from three kinds of sources: published material (books, studies, heritage files), fieldwork, and conversations with the people who live with that knowledge, such as artisans, residents and local researchers.

When sources disagree, we present the different interpretations rather than choosing one and ignoring the rest.

Fact-checking

  • Figures, dates and official names are checked against at least one reliable source.
  • Administrative details (province, city, managing body) follow current administrative units, with former names where they help readers.
  • Oral tradition, anecdotes and popular interpretations are labelled as such.

Crediting sources

Every story ends with a “Sources” section. People who shared their knowledge are credited under “Knowledge contributors” unless they prefer to remain anonymous.

Images

Photos credit their photographer or source. We ask permission before photographing and publishing people, homes and family workshops.

Updates and corrections

Stories show their publication date and last update. When we find an error, we correct it and note significant changes at the end of the story. Readers can send feedback to hello@localis.vn.

Editorial independence

Editorial content is not for sale. If a story involves a partner, this is stated at the top of the story.
